7 Ways To Make Your Video 129% More Effective
1. Keep It Simple
Effects are great for Hollywood blockbusters, not for web videos. Transition effects cause poor compression ratios for Flash Video, and result in lower quality streaming. This usually translates to a poor experience for the viewer.
2. Keep On Task
One of the worst things you can do is waste your audiences time. Stick to the message you want to deliver, without getting sidetracked.
3. Know what you're going to say before you say it.
Rehearse your lines! Not all of us are naturals in front of a camera. If you have to use a teleprompter, then fine - just make sure you set it up so your eyes aren't jetting left to right the entire time.
4. Lighting, please!
There's a reason a director says, "Lights, Camera, Action!" in that order. Lighting is extremely important! You simply cannot overlook this aspect of video recording.
5. Keep Distractions To a Minimum
What the heck is that thing in the background? Why is the other person in your video there? Why are they reading your lines off the teleprompter? These things actually happen. Eliminate anything that's not important to your message. Yes, it's nice that you have a jacuzzi that you can sit in... but what's that got to do with what you're selling?
6. Doma Aregato, Mr. Robato!
Loosen up a bit! You're not a billboard, you're a human being. If you're not comfortable in front of the camera, then keep doing it until you are. Body language speaks volumes.
7. Be Yourself, and Have Fun
One of the best videos I've seen was done by Yanik Silver. He was in his dining room, with his wife running the camera. He went through his entire "Brain in a Box" product, showing people what they were going to be getting. In the video, he was himself. He had some wine, laughed with Missy, and let his audience connect with him in a very real fashion. Just be natural, and enjoy the video experience!
