8 Types of Online Videos People Hate

1. The "Hard Sell" Video

This is the fastest way to shut down a proestive customer. It's the equivalent of a really bad "used car salesman" approach. People don't like it. People like to believe that they are in control of the decision process. Allow them that thought.

2. The "You Just Wasted My Time" Video

Doing nothing more than eating in front of your camera or dancing around in a stupid costume is simply wrong. As we say here, "Video for Video's Sake is Dead." Don't waste your audiences time.

3. The Over Produced, Or "Cheesy Transition Effects" Video

Yes, your editing suite can do a lot of "neat" things. Whoop-dee-doo. Adding irrelevant effects to a video means two things: Too much time on your hands, and you know how to click a button. Just because they're there, doesn't mean you have to use them! Take a page out of the infomercial creation guidebook (or just watch 15 mintues of an infomercial)... no time wasting at all in those things!

4. The "I Don't Get It" Video

Scott (High Touch) always says, "A Confused Mind Says 'No'". He's right, they do. If your video isn't clear in it's overall message (without becoming a 'hard sell' video), then don't put it online. If you're not sure if it's a clear message, show the video to someone not in your influence circle (like the next door neighbor's kid). If they understand the overall message, then you're good to go.

5. The "I'm so cool" Video

One of the things some marketers forget is that without the people who bought their prodcut, they wouldn't be where they are today. Even if you can afford some of the greatest material things life has to offer, make sure you keep the video in perspective. Promote the idea that other people can have the same things you have, rather than showing off what you have.

6. The "This Person Is An Idiot" Video

Let me bottom line this one for you: If you come across as anything less than a friendly, clean, confident professional, you'll be labeled as an idiot. The online world can be (and is) extrememly unforgiving. Your competition will zero in on any mistake they see in your video, highlight it, and use that against you - even if the "mistake" they find is a simple stain on your shirt.

7. The "Why Won't This Video Play?" Video

One of the quickest ways to lose an audience is to not pay attention to the technical side of video. If your video doesn't play, or is constantly needing to buffer, then you will lose your audience, and potential sale. Hosting your video on the same server that you host your website on is a bad idea. Services such as VideoPaste incorporate large capacity media servers to handle video streaming and video streaming alone.

8. The "What's Going On?" Video

Unless the background has something to do with the video, then try to eliminate anything that might be distracting. You want the audience to focus on one thing, and one thing only. If their eyes wander, so do their thoughts.
